Klein Constantia Home Renovation

The brief on this project was to address the overall lack of light in the home. The clients were tired of their dark and outdated interior that hadn't seen a renovation for 20 years.  They also wanted to improve the TV/Fireplace wall and the arrangement of furniture in the living space. This was achieved with new lighting solutions, new colour scheme, the re-positioning of the Tv to the central wall and the creation of custom cabinetry on either side to create a large feature wall around which we re arranged the seating area.  The walls, ceiling and existing kitchen cabinetry all received a new paint shade to lighten and brighten the interior. Wooden floors replaced the outdated tiled floor. Most items of furniture needed re upholstering and repainting. The dining table got a new lease of life with a sanding to remove the yellow varnish and a grey wash carefully techniqued over to highlight the oak grain giving it a wonderful new feel when paired with the existing chairs that were painted white.
Bedrooms were updated with new curtains and blinds, padded headboards, custom bed throws, lamps and scatters. An old tired leather desk chair destined to be thrown out, was rescued , recovered in Charcoal velvet, a new set of chrome wheels replaced the black plastic ones and silver studs added to the upholstery trim. This was a wonderful transformation and am so glad the clients had trust in my vision for their beautiful home.

After Transformation

A colour palette of neutrals, stones, taupes, soft greys and khaki were used for this project with White being the hero colour to lift it out of the brown dark interior it was. A design plan was prepared and presented to convey the vision for their space. The warmth of new wood flooring and a stunning neutral stone wall shade made a huge difference to the atmosphere and background of the room . As did painting the dark ceiling and beams sparkling white which the clients were very worried to do at first. Custom made cabinets were built on either side of the TV and decorated with the clients silverware and glasses and huge pots and foliage add drama to the display. The couches were recovered in a pale textured khaki fabric and silk scatter cushions made up.In the kitchen area an extra cabinet was built on the right of the stove to create symmetry to the back kitchen wall. New wall tiles in a cement wash look were added as a splash back.Brown Kitchen cabinets were painted Ivory. Stunning upholstered counter stools were added to the island and feature pendants hung above .Bedrooms were updated with bespoke bed throws, new padded headboards, lamps, bedside tables, new curtains and blinds added to the window areas. An old leather chair destined for the dump was rescued, recovered in a charcoal velvet and studded, new stainless wheels added and now takes pride in the owners home office. All that's needed now is to open a bottle of wine and settle in for a cosy night in.
